About project
The ancient Silk Road represents the ideal of trans-regional unity in the historical memory of mankind. This long route strung together a pearl necklace of nations, linking a colorful array of peoples across the Eurasian landmass. Across the centuries, trade caravans, pilgrims, and adventurers traveled over mountains and deserts between Europe, the Middle East, and Central Asia and across China all the way to Korea , Japan and Southeast Asia . This ancient information highway exchanged material goods, but also artistic treasures, cultural symbols, philosophical ideas and spiritual ideals.
The purpose of this project is to participate in the building of a new, modern Silk Road through creative voices engaged in cultural dialogues. The task of the project is to manifest a deep and many-faceted symbolic exchange between East and West through the expression of artists from Asia and Europe presenting their works to the public in traveling exhibitions.
The exhibitions, gathered from different centers along the Silk Road , will combine various kinds of artistic media, methods and creative styles and unite artists who participate in the project. Artists are favored who are exploring new boundaries in their fields and are willing to innovate and experiment. The exhibitions will then become mobile forums for the fertile intercourse of cultures, for the forging of creative symbols, and for the orchestration of new ideas that will communicate the common lot of mankind through unique flights of the human spirit.
The new Silk Road , perceived in a contemporary light, will become again a landmark to confirm the unity and indivisibility of the peoples of the world.
The Kyrgyz National Museum of Fine Arts—Gapar Aytiev will accomplish this task with the assistance of local artistic communities and the partnership of other cultural institutions. Together the project will widen the scope of international dialogues and help modern artists and cultural masters to acquire and increase their audiences.
